This iconic ad from P&O Australia ran in 1992, featuring Fairstar “the fun ship” – which is still evokes happy memories for thousands of Aussies who cruised on her over the many years she served the Australian market. The ship was scrapped in 1997, and replaced with Fair Princess.
In the early 2000’s P&O Australia became a separate cruise line, and entered a period of constantly evolving their brand with a newer more modern “Pacific” named fleet starting with Pacific Sky in 2000. In 2021, they are still evolving, welcoming Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure to the fleet.
Still, for many people, Fairstar holds a place in their heart as their first experience of cruising. It’s a shame the iconic jingle still isn’t used today, as it’s probably one of the most memorable branding tunes in Australian advertising history!
